I was lucky enough to spend half the week in Canberra attending the Regions Leading Their own Development executive education program, which was hosted by Regional Australia Institute.
It was an invaluable opportunity, where I saw familiar faces and met new ones - building connections from across the country to be able to benefit our region.
I was quite overwhelmed with the vast scale of ingenuity in the room, amazing ideas and programs that are challenging how we think and what can be achieved in the regional space.
While I’m a person that usually thinks outside the box, this program made me think outside an exponential cube! The top minds and leading authorities on best practice approaches to the development of regional systems, their communities and economics were on hand, offering advice and their first hand experience.
In the coming weeks and months I will share and implement these learnings and I can’t wait to share with you all how great our future in our incredible region can be.
In other great news… we’ve been informed that Baaka Cultural and Art Centre at Wilcannia has been awarded $50,000 in funding from the Foundation for Rural Regional Renewal (FRRR), which will be used to fit out the Art Centre component of the project.
RDA Orana is working with the Bakka Cultural and Art Centre at Wilcannia to assist in getting the project up and running. While it’s still in the construction phase, the Centre will become the lifeblood of the community once completed.
The funding from FRRR will be used specifically for the fit out and purchase of materials for the Art Centre.
I’m looking forward to providing updates on the centre's progress in the coming months.
