Recently I had the pleasure of travelling out to Wilcannia to see the progress of the Baaka Cultural and Art Centre, which is a $9.5 million dollar project, transforming a once derelict site into a state of the art cultural centre and visitor experience. RDA Orana is working with the Baaka Corporation and Central Darling Shire on the project with Baaka Operations Manager, Gail Russell.
Gail had a brilliant idea to take advantage of the thousands of travellers making their way to the Mundi Mundi Bash in Broken Hill, and developed an event called Monday B4 Mundi. The event offered a bush tucker degustation lunch sampling plate which was a hit and featured yellowbelly fish tacos, saltbush-fed lamb kebabs, kangaroo stir fry, emu meatballs, goat curry, roo burger with bush tomato chutney, finished off by damper with wattle-seed whipped cream and golden syrup. There were also market stalls, live music and other activities.
All funds raised from the Monday B4 Mundi event will go towards the operations of the Baaka Cultural and Art Centre with preparations already underway for the 2025 event, which will be held in the finished centre.
If you’re heading out west, make sure you call in and see the Centre, while it’s still under construction, it really is a sight to be seen.
We also have a number of regional workshops coming up throughout the region. Next Tuesday 27 August we will host a Beat Self Doubt and Lead with Confidence workshop being held in Dubbo and Bourke. This interactive workshop will unpack and offer practical insights to help you overcome self-doubt and step into your career with confidence and courage. The workshop is presented by leading career and confidence coaches and authors of Core Confidence, Kate Boorer and Fiona Pearman.
In Nyngan from 5-6 September we are supporting a two-day Changemaker Workshop. If you are passionate about your community and want to make change happen, this is the workshop for you.
