Orana DAMA success
Since the successful delivery of the expanded DAMA for NSW, communication and consultation has been strong between Regional Development Australia (RDA) Orana and its regional stakeholders during the sixth year of the Orana Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA).
The Orana DAMA officially opened to applications on 9 October 2019. An extension of 1 year was granted in April 2024 with a geographical expansion to include RDA regions of Central West, Southern Inland, Murray and Riverina. The agreement now covers 60% of the state and offers 129 occupations to 53 local government areas, with some occupations eligible for TSMIT, English, Qualifications and Age concessions.
We are now working on a variation to the DAMA for a further extension of another year and another geographical expansion to include the RDA areas of Northern Inland and Far West - if successful, this would mean the Orana DAMA covered 90% of the state.
Our on-the-ground relationship with businesses in the region is unmatched, and is what makes the Orana DAMA work for businesses despite its lengthy and costly implementation. Regional businesses are still struggling to fill positions and the Orana DAMA helps to address current workforce shortages and to support future workforce planning. Since April 2024 the Orana DAMA has supported 54 businesses and endorsed 260 positions.
It is a priority for RDA Orana and the Australian Government to always promote jobs for Australians first, however the DAMA allows employers who are unable to find suitably qualified Australians to supplement their workforce with overseas workers.
If you have a business that is struggling to employ skilled workers perhaps the Orana DAMA can help. For more information visit: https://www.rdaorana.org.au/migration/dama
Orana Outlook Forum
We were very disappointed to have cancelled this year’s Orana Outlook Forum that was planned to be held in Mudgee this week, however due to low numbers and feedback around the timing of the event in busy December, we decided to combine the Forum program into the Inland Growth Summit.
Rescheduling the event will allow for a greater lineup of speakers and information to be presented to attendees with many of the proposed speakers joining us at the Inland Growth Summit. The 2025 Inland Growth Summit will be held on 13-14 March 2025 at Lazy River Estate Dubbo.
The Connection Table
We are pleased to announce our collaboration with The Connection Table, an innovative online networking platform that unites and supports leaders from across regional, rural and remote Australia.
The goal of The Connection Table is to facilitate meaningful connections and offer continuous support to leaders who are committed to making an impact in their communities and beyond.
The platform will allow current and emerging rural leaders to connect, collaborate and advance their leadership skills by providing ongoing capacity building, networking opportunities, and pathways to leadership roles, speaking opportunities and advocacy.
This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing the representation and influence of rural leaders in community, industry, and government decision-making processes.
