Enticing essential workers to regional locations can be a tricky task, however a unique program piloted by the NSW Government over the past year has seen success not only in finding but also retaining workers in the region through a program callThe Welcome Experience.
It was announced this week that RDA Orana will be the host agency for our region and continue to roll out the program in Walgett as well as Bourke, Dubbo and Wellington.
The program offers a free concierge style service to support essential workers and their families who are considering applying for or have accepted a job in regional NSW. It aims to help these workers feel more at home in their new communities sooner by helping them to settle and establish connections and relationships with personalised support.
This is an exciting project for RDA Orana, aligning with our values and with our workforce strategy. We have strong presence and broad reach in the region. We have numerous resources, growing networks and significant connections and partnership that can be leveraged to make the Welcome Experience a success in our region.
The program has been piloted in Walgett for the past year with Local Connector Alana Copelin assisting with the successful relocation of 57 people to the area.
Police Officer Amy was one of those essential workers that Alana assisted after moving from Sydney to the far north western town of Walgett. The Welcome Experience helped the family settle into the local community and assisted Amy’s husband Casey to secure a local carpentry job.
Alana will now come on board with RDA Orana as the Orana Welcome Experience Coordinator for the region operating from Walgett and working closely with two new local connectors who will be based in Dubbo and Bourke.
We will be advertising these roles next week through local media and details can also be found on our website.
Cheers for now
Justine
